The
ground in Chu Lai, South Vietnam is sandy, a result of being on a coastal
plain next to the South China Sea. When it rains though, the land becomes muddy.
The mountains in
the background are small ones. As you approach these hills you are heading west and inland, where you will
find jungle and richer soil.
If you continue heading in this direction, you will eventually reach the border Vietnam shares with Laos.
